The Biomechanics of the Rider with Sonja Vorsmann, September 19–20, 2026

About this course

This course can be booked either as a theoretical seminar or as a course that includes practical components, and participants may also bring their own horses.

In Balance with the Horse

Knowledge of the rider’s biomechanics is crucial for positively influencing the horse’s development and motivation.
Harmony is created when we understand our bodies and use them effectively.
In this seminar, I’ll answer practical questions such as:
– How do I move optimally with the horse?
– Why is an upright upper body important?
– What does “deep heel” mean?

Under the motto “Horseback Riding Instruction: Participate, Feel, and Understand,” I begin with the functional anatomy of the human body, and we use our hands to feel the structures on our own bodies that are important for riding.
There is a stretching and mobility program, and we practice movements specific to equestrian sports.
Using a skeletal model in the saddle, I’ll demonstrate the effects of poor seat posture. With bits and reins, we’ll develop a subtle connection to the horse’s mouth and learn correct rein aids.
Finally, we’ll demonstrate what we’ve learned while riding.

The course is designed for riders of all ages and disciplines, as well as instructors, and includes both theory and practical instruction, as well as half-board accommodations at the Schulze Niehues farm.
